What happens after you are married?

Celebrant-Byron-Bay

Once you have had your amazing Byron Bay wedding, what happens next? The simple answer is, you live happily ever after!

Yet beyond the world of Disney, there are some legal steps that need to be followed.

The good news is you don’t worry about it, as a Byron Bay marriage celebrant I know it all ends up in the marriage celebrants hands.

During your ceremony once the legal aspects have been taken care of, you are legally married! After the ceremony the marriage celebrant lodges your wedding with Births Deaths and Marriages. This is required to happen within 14 days of your wedding day.

If submitted online, (which is the way to go) the marriage is usually registered pretty quickly, often the same day.  Boom, your marriage is officially registered by the state.

If you are wanting to change your name and in turn your medicare, bank details or passport you need an official marriage certificate. This can be applied for via Births Deaths and Marriage NSW (fees apply) or for the easy option your Byron Bay wedding celebrant can apply on your behalf for up to 60 days after your wedding day.

I usually ask my couples about this in the planning stage. That way it can all be seamless after the wedding, and you don’t have to do a thing. Once applied for, it can take up to 14 days to arrive. Then back to “happily ever after”……and of course, waiting for your photo’s!
